Product Details

LAMEZ 100MG TAB is an anticonvulsant which is used to control seizures and also used in the bipolar disorders.

 

Indications:

  • Epilepsy
  • Bipolar disorder

Dosage:

  • Seizure disorder: Initially, 25 mg PO qDay for 2 weeks, Then 50 mg/day PO for 2 weeks. After 4 weeks may increase by 50 mg/day q1-2 week to 225-375 mg/day divided q12hr.
  • Bipolar disorder: Initially, 25 mg PO qDay for 2 weeks, Then, 50 mg PO qDay for 2 weeks, 100 mg PO qDay for 1 week, Double dose qWeek to maintenance at 200 mg/day PO.
     
  • For renal imapirment, may consider reduction of the dose.
  • For hepatic impairment, decrease dose by 25% (moderate-severe without ascites) or by 50% (severe with ascites) and decrease dose by 50% (Child-Pugh class B) or by 75% (Child-Pugh class C).

Onset of Action: 1 to 1.5 hours for an immediate release tablet and 4 to 11 hours for an extended release tablet.

Duration of Action: 2 to 3 days.

 

Side Effects:

  • Blurred or double vision
  • Loss of coordination
  • Skin rash
  • Anxiety
  • Depressed mood
  • Confusion
  • Swelling of face, lips, eyelids, tongue, hands and feet
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Headache

Interactions:

  1. Interaction with Medicines: Severe interactions with valporic acid.
  2. Interaction with Diseases: Increase the risk of aseptic meningitis.

 

Contraindications:

  • Allergy with lamotrigine or drugs of another class.

Warnings:

  • Suicidal thoughts: May increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or depression.
  • Skin reactions: May cause severe skin reactions like Stevens-Johnson Syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis.
  • Blood cell count: May cause neutropenia, anemia, and aplastic anemia.
  • Withdrawal symptoms: Should not be stopped immediately without informing the doctor due to the risk of withdrawal symptoms like seizures.
  • Impaired liver function: Should be used with caution in the patients with mild to moderate liver injury.
  • Pregnancy: Not recommended.
  • Lactation: Not recommended.
  • Safety with alcohol: Consumption of alcohol with this medicine is not recommended as it increases the risk of side effects like dizziness, difficulty in concentration.

General Instructions:

  • Take the tablet with or without food.
  • Do not take in larger amounts than advised.
  • Consult the doctor if you experience any undesirable effects.

Storage Conditions:

  • Store at room temperature, under 77°F (25ºC).
  • Keep it away from high temperatures.
