Product Details

Veltam 0.4 mg Tablet is an alpha-adrenoreceptor antagonist which is used in men to decrease the urine outflow resistance due to an enlarged prostate gland. This medicine should be used with caution as it may lower the blood pressure. It is not recommended in patients with a known history of allergy to tamsulosin and patients with a risk of erectile dysfunction.

 

Indications:

  • Benign prostatic hyperplasia

Dosage:

  • Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia: 0.4 mg PO qDay; take 30 minutes after same meal each day, if inadequate response after 2-4 weeks, may increase to 0.8 mg qDay.
  • Bladder Outlet Obstruction (Off-label): 0.4 mg PO qDay.

Onset of Action: The effect of this medicine can be observed in 4 to 8 hours.

Duration of Action: The effect of this medicine lasts for an average duration of 1 to 2 days.

 

Side effects:

  • Fever with chills
  • Cough
  • Chest pain
  • Dizziness
  • Abnormal ejaculation

Interactions:

  1. Interaction with Medicines: Severe to moderate interactions with Diltiazem, Erythromycin, Ketoconazole

  2. Interaction with Diseases:
    Cataract: Tamsulosin is not recommended in patients who are scheduled for cataract or glaucoma surgery. Usage of this medicine should be reported to the doctor before the surgery.

Contraindications:

  • Allergy

Warnings:

  • Hypotension: Tamsulosin tablet may lower the blood pressure and may cause dizziness, weakness. It is advised to sit or lie down until the symptoms disappear. Inform the doctor if the symptoms worsen.
  • Cataract surgery: Tamsulosin tablet is not recommended in patients scheduled for cataract surgery due to the risk of developing Intraoperative Floppy Iris Syndrome (IFIS). 
  • Pregnancy: This medicine is not recommended for use in pregnant women.
  • Lactation: This medicine is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women.
  • Safety with alcohol: Alcohol should not be consumed while receiving this medicine as it may lower the blood pressure and causes dizziness, lightheadedness. Avoid performing activities that need mental alertness like driving a vehicle or operating heavy machinery.

General instructions:

  • Take Tamsulosin ablet as instructed by the doctor.
  • Do not take larger amounts than prescribed.
  • Close monitoring of blood pressure is necessary while receiving this medicine.
  • Performing activities that require mental alertness like driving a vehicle or operating machinery is not recommended while receiving this medication.

Storage Conditions:

  • Store at room temperature, under 77°F (25ºC).
  • Keep it away from high temperatures.
